Join us for our next Stanley Picker Gallery Friday Night Late to see a new scenes from “The Participation Waltz”, collectively created and performed by BA Drama and Dance students in collaboration with Dr Caoimhe Mader McGuinness and Sophie Huckfield.
Returning by popular demand is Ian Saville, former member of Broadside Mobile Workers Theatre and the world’s leading socialist magician (possibly the only one).
Over five weeks, Dr Caoimhe Mader McGuinness and Sophie Huckfield will work in the gallery with Performing Arts students at Kingston University to deconstruct the 1976 play the ”The Participation Waltz”. Drawing on the exhibition’s installation, artworks and archival materials, students explore the connections between workers’ theatre and contemporary questions of work, demilitarisation, democracy and education.
Experimenting with agit-prop, physical theatre, clowning and site-responsive performance, students move between performer, participant and audience to test new possibilities for collective action, political imagination and performance.
Join us for an evening of live performance, socialist magic and theatrical experimentation.
