A room shifts with the value of one currency against another. Movement, facial expression and voice are separated from the person who produced them and placed under review. Across two connected moving-image works, traces persist, but what they can be made to support remains unresolved.
In Machine Anxiety, a point-cloud scan of a temporary room is connected to GBP/CNY exchange-rate data from the period in which the room was scanned. The room deforms, erodes and shifts in density as economic fluctuation acts upon its digital reconstruction.
The Evidence Disagrees takes the form of an evidence-review interface. Spatial, motion, facial and voice traces are classified, compared and used to reconstruct a subject. The procedure stops at the point where its material can no longer support a stronger claim: “Subject reconstruction paused. Awaiting human context.”
Presented in sequence in the same space, the two works move from encountering a trace to encountering the procedures through which traces become evidence and grounds for judgement.
